View, Do, & Learn

SOPTV Ready To Learn prepares children for success in school by broadcasting nine hours each weekday of nonviolent, commercial-free, educational children’s television. These programs set the standard for excellence by developing key school-readiness skills in language, literacy, math, and social and emotional learning.

SOPTV Ready To Learn also provides workshops for parents, teachers, and caregivers of children ages two to eight years old. At these workshops, adults learn to get the most out of watching quality television with children by using the Learning Triangle of “View, Do and Read” to extend the learning from television into the home, school, or care center with hands-on activities.

  • Monthly RTL Newsletter
    • Our Monthly RTL Newsletter is packed full of articles, advice, and activities to help parents, teachers, and caregivers get children ready to learn.
  • Learning Triangle
    • The Ready To Learn Learning Triangle is a special supplement to the monthly newsletter that identifies programs to watch, acivities to do, and books to read all related to a specific theme.
  • Kids Shows

Children and Television

Second only to parents, television is the young child's most influential teacher. Nothing else in our culture can match television's ability to influence how children learn, think, and act. Given the power of television, young children need adults to help them become wise television users. Many studies show that with selective viewing, television can contribute richly to school readiness. To help children get the most from the TV they watch, parents must take responsibility to supervise and guide their children's TV viewing.

On-Air Educational Messages

Messages for children related to reading and learning are promoted through non-commercial video breaks aired between PBS KIDS television programs.
