OREGON FINDS: Loggings Living Past Russ Christoff OREGON FINDS: Logging's Living Past is a 30 minute travel documentary that features four very different logging museums located within the state of Oregon. It has as its mission "to motivate the people of Oregon to relive the glory days of logging with visits to museums and exhibits around the state."

Featured Museums & Exhibits

The Collier Logging Museum, one of Oregon's finest and oldest museums. Begun in 1947, the Collier brothers displayed a collection of rare, antique logging equipment, with the intent to show how logging equipment has evolved from the use of oxen and felling axes to modern diesel tractors and trucks. Also spotlighted is the vital role the railroad played in the timber industry. The museum is located in Collier Memorial Park on Highway 97, 30 miles north of Klamath Falls, Oregon.

The Southern Oregon Historical Society (SOHS) Jacksonville Museum presents Miner, Baker, Furniture Maker, an exhibit that includes logging artifacts and a diorama featuring logging as a profession. The Jacksonville Museum and The Southern Oregon Historical Society are headquartered in Jacksonville, Oregon. The Southern Oregon Historical Society’s robust photo collection at their branch located in Medford is also featured.

Lazinka Sawmill at the High Desert Museum in Bend - Authentic Turn-of-the-Century Sawmill - Sawmills like this were once used to build the quickly growing West. This authentic turn-of-the-century mill runs during selected summer weekends. Volunteers re-enact the way the mill was run and talk about the logging industry of the last century.

Modeled after the Mormon Tabernacle, The Coos County Logging Museum was listed on the National Register of Historical Buildings on October 18, 1979. Inside, pictures, carvings, and artifacts bring logging history alive. The large, unique Myrtlewood carvings on permanent display are a particular highlight of any visit. The museum also displays a large assortment of antique logging equipment: chain saws, spring boards, rigging equipment, axes, adzes and other hand tools related to logging; railroad items that pertain to the hauling of logs; and old photographs.

About Russ Christoff

Russ Christoff has been an on-camera host for more than twenty years, including the multiple award-winning 1999 series TRAVELING CALIFORNIA STATE PARKS. In addition to hosting hundreds of corporate, educational, and training films you may have also seen Russ in several film and television roles on the programs Nash Bridges, Midnight Caller, and Unsolved Mysteries. Russ is also a proud 6th grade math and science teacher in the Antioch, California school district.
